I’m based in Jonesboro, and I handle cases in the circuit and district courts of three Arkansas judicial circuits: the Second, the Third and the Sixteenth. Together, they cover 15 counties across Northeast and North Central Arkansas. I also take select cases anywhere in Arkansas.
Select Cases Statewide
Outside these 15 counties, I take a limited number of cases anywhere in Arkansas when the case calls for a trial lawyer, such as:
- Serious criminal charges that are likely headed for trial, including sex offense allegations
- Contested custody cases, including custody cases that involve another state
- Complex family law and civil disputes that may need to be tried
Routine matters outside my home circuits, such as an uncontested divorce, are usually better handled by a lawyer close to you. If you’re not sure whether your case is a fit, ask, and I’ll tell you honestly.
Here is a guide to the courts I serve regularly and where each county’s cases are heard.
Second Judicial Circuit
The Second Judicial Circuit covers six counties in Northeast Arkansas, including my home county of Craighead.
- Craighead County: Jonesboro and Lake City
- Clay County: Piggott and Corning
- Crittenden County: Marion
- Greene County: Paragould
- Mississippi County: Blytheville and Osceola
- Poinsett County: Harrisburg
Third Judicial Circuit
The Third Judicial Circuit covers four counties to the west and northwest of Jonesboro.
- Jackson County: Newport
- Lawrence County: Walnut Ridge
- Randolph County: Pocahontas
- Sharp County: Ash Flat
Sixteenth Judicial Circuit
The Sixteenth Judicial Circuit covers five counties in North Central Arkansas.
- Independence County: Batesville
- Cleburne County: Heber Springs
- Fulton County: Salem
- Izard County: Melbourne
- Stone County: Mountain View
What I Handle in These Courts
Family law is most of my practice: divorce, custody, child support, paternity, guardianship, adoption and orders of protection. I also take a select number of criminal cases, usually difficult matters likely to require a trial, and civil cases such as personal injury, probate litigation and wrongful foreclosure.
Circuit Court and District Court
In Arkansas, circuit courts hear divorce, custody, adoption, guardianship, probate, felony and most civil cases. District courts generally hear misdemeanors, traffic cases and smaller civil claims. Your paperwork will tell you which court and judge your case is assigned to.
